Lecture and laboratory.  Theory and application of basic principles in hematology

CLSP 4401. Immunology, 1 cr, Wiesner

Lecture.  Basic principles of human immune function, clinical applications, clinical techniques (including flow cytometry)

CLSP 4102. Diagnostic Microbiology, 2 cr, Wells

Lecture.  Techniques used in laboratory diagnosis of infectious disease.  Isolating/identifying bacteria and yeast.  Antibacterial susceptibility testing. 

CLSP 4103. Diagnostic Microbiology, 2 cr, Wells

Laboratory.  Techniques used in laboratory diagnosis of infectious disease.  Isolating/identifying bacteria and yeast.  Antibacterial susceptibility testing.

CLSP 4302. Clinical Chemistry I, 3 cr, Spannaus-Martin

Lecture (on-line only) and laboratory.  Principles and theory of clinical chemistry, assessing renal and metabolic disease/dysfunction, electrolyte and acid-base balance.  Introduction to principles and processes for quality management in the clinical laboratory.

a.  Unless otherwise stated, the majority of Fall 2008 lecture material will be delivered in both web based and didactic (either in person or via ITV) formats.  Wet laboratory exercises are delivered in the teaching laboratories at the Minneapolis and Rochester campuses. 

b.  Urinalysis is given in from January 5 to January 16, 2009, and is considered a Fall semester course.

CLSP 4701. Applied Diagnostic Microbiology, 2 cr, Brennecke and Solberg

Four weeks.  Isolation, identification and antimicrobial susceptibility testing of clinically significant microbes from patient specimens.

CLSP 4702. Applied Clinical Hematology/Hemostasis, 2 cr, Brennecke and Solberg

Four weeks.  Application of basic methods and techniques in a clinical hematology, cellular morphology, and hemostasis.

CLSP 4703. Applied Chemistry/Urinalysis, 2 cr, Brennecke and Solberg

Four weeks.  Application of basic methods and techniques in a clinical chemistry laboratory. 

CLSP 4704. Applied Transfusion Medicine, 2 cr, Brennecke and Solberg

Four weeks.  Application of basic methods and techniques in a transfusion medicine laboratory. 

CLSP 4705. Specialty Rotation, 1 cr, Brennecke and Solberg

One-week rotation in a specialty laboratory such as cytogenetics, flow cytometry, or one of the laboratories at the Minnesota Board of Health.
