The CLS Student Handbook is a detailed guide to policies, procedures and resources for the CLS Program.
Students in need of a student handbook from a previous year should contact the CLS Program Office.
The policies below are not inclusive for University of Minnesota CLS students. Additional policies will be communicated to those admitted to the program.
Background Check
CLS students are placed in a variety of clinical settings during their clinical coursework. In accord with Minnesota law, a criminal background check is required of each student before clinical courses. The CLS Program arranges this check through the State of Minnesota.
Laptop Computer
The CLS program uses technology to enhance the learning environment. Thus, a personal computer is needed to receive a significant portion of the instruction. Click here to learn more about computer system requirements for completing the CLS program.
Disability Services
The University of Minnesota is committed to providing all students equal access to learning opportunities. Disability Services is the campus office that works with students who have disabilities to provide and/or arrange reasonable accommodations. Students registered with Disability Services, who have a letter requesting accommodations, are encouraged to contact the instructor early in the semester. Students who have, or think they may have, a disability (e.g. psychiatric, attentional, learning, vision, hearing, physical, or systemic), are invited to contact Disability Services for a confidential discussion at 612-626-1333 (V/TTY) or at ds@umn.edu. Additional information is available at the DS website http://ds.umn.edu.
Absences for Participation in Religious Observances
The University of Minnesota permits absences from class for participation in religious observances. Students who plan to miss class must:
- Inform instructors of anticipated absences at the beginning of the semester;
- Meet with instructors to reschedule any missed examinations; and
- Obtain class notes from other students.
Instructors are required to assist students in obtaining course materials and assignments distributed during class sessions and to make arrangements for taking missed examinations.
